Titanium: as a working rule titanium cuts at roughly the same thickness as stainless steel at the same power, sometimes slightly less, using nitrogen or argon. Ask us for a test cut before committing to a titanium job.
Achievable thickness also depends on assist gas, nozzle, focus, material grade and surface condition. Call 770-934-6500 and our HSG factory-trained technicians will run a test cut on your own material.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
------------------------------------------------------------
Q: How thick can the HSG G4020H cut?
A: Depends on the laser power you configure. At 3 kW, expect roughly 0.31″-0.47″ (~3/8″ to 1/2″) of mild steel in everyday production; at 30 kW, roughly 1.38″-1.97″ (~1-3/8″ to 2″). Stainless runs about 0.24″-0.31″ (~1/4″ to 3/8″) at 3 kW and 1.18″-1.57″ (~1-1/8″ to 1-5/8″) at 30 kW. These are estimates for planning — achievable thickness depends on assist gas, nozzle, focus and material grade. Call 770-934-6500 and our HSG factory-trained technicians will run a test cut on your own material.
Q: What size sheet can the HSG G4020H cut?
A: The G4020H has a cutting area of 161.42″ x 80.71″ (4100 x 2050 mm), or roughly 13.5 ft x 6.7 ft.
Q: What laser power options are available on the HSG G4020H?
A: 3–60 kW (3–30 kW on the US price list) — quoted in the US as 3 / 6 / 12 / 20 / 30 kW quoted in the US. Power selection should be driven by your thickest regular material and your required cycle time, not by the maximum available.
Q: How fast is the HSG G4020H?
A: Max linkage acceleration is 2.8 G and max linkage speed is 656 ft/min (200 m/min). On nests with many small features, acceleration matters more than top speed.
Q: What laser source is in the HSG G4020H?
A: You choose. HSG builds this machine with either an IPG or a Raycus laser source. IPG is the American-headquartered benchmark in fiber lasers; Raycus is the largest fiber laser manufacturer outside IPG and is well proven at scale. Tell us how you plan to run the machine and we will tell you honestly which one makes sense for your duty cycle and your budget.
Q: What materials can the HSG G4020H cut?
A: Carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, copper and titanium. Depends on the laser power you configure.
Q: Can the HSG G4020H replace a plasma cutter or waterjet?
A: For most sheet and plate work, yes — and it is the most common reason shops buy one. Against plasma you get tighter tolerances and a cleaner edge that usually needs no secondary cleanup. Against waterjet you get speed, often several times faster on the same sheet, with no abrasive cost. If thick plate is what has you considering waterjet, more laser power is usually the better answer than a different process — a 20 kW or 30 kW machine cuts carbon steel well past two inches, and the GV and GFA series go heavier still. Send us a part you currently cut and we will run it as a sample so you can compare edge quality and cycle time.
Q: Where are HSG lasers made? Is HSG a Chinese company?
A: Yes — HSG is a Chinese manufacturer headquartered in Guangdong, and a partner we chose deliberately. They have built metal-shaping equipment since 2006, run their optical R&D centre in Japan, operate subsidiaries across Asia, Europe and North America, and build to European CE standards. You choose whether an IPG or Raycus source goes inside, and parts ship from Chicago and Los Angeles rather than overseas.
Q: Is HSG a reliable brand for a shop buying its first fiber laser?
A: Absolutely, and we did our due diligence before selling HSGs. Doug and Shaun MacLean have spent decades selling metal fabrication equipment across the country, and we do not put our name on a line we have not checked. We visited HSG's Chicago facility, watched these machines running in customers' shops, measured them against Amadas and other equipment we have sold for years, and looked hard at US parts and service before partnering with HSG. With a direct line to the President of HSG North America, we are able to give our customers the best training and support in the Southeast. The imported-machine market has changed a great deal in ten years. For most first-time buyers the deciding factor is not necessarily the machine but who answers the phone when it stops. That is us, and we are an hour from most of metro Atlanta.
Q: What warranty comes with the HSG G4020H?
A: Every HSG machine carries a one-year standard warranty. Depending on the model a three-year standard warranty applies, and extended coverage up to five years can be purchased — ask us which applies to the configuration you are considering. On most quotes we also work in a spare cutting head. It is the most common wear item on any fiber laser, and one sitting on your shelf turns a head failure into a lost afternoon rather than weeks waiting on a part.
Q: Who sells and services the HSG G4020H in the United States?
A: MacLean Machinery Network in Tucker, Georgia is an Authorized HSG Distributor with HSG factory-trained laser technicians on staff. We handle application review, installation, operator training and after-sale service ourselves. Call 770-934-6500.
Q: Do you provide local service for fiber laser cutting machines in Georgia and Florida?
A: Yes. Our HSG factory-trained technicians work out of Tucker, Georgia, just outside Atlanta, so customers across Georgia and Florida get fast on-site support rather than waiting on a technician routed in from another state. We also cover Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina and the wider Southeast, and sell and support HSG machines nationwide.
Q: Is the HSG G4020H in stock?
A: Yes — this model is stocked in HSG's US warehouses, so lead times are short. Call 770-934-6500 to confirm current availability and configuration.
Q: What does an HSG G4020H cost?
A: We quote per configuration rather than publishing a list price, because laser power, laser source, control package, automation and freight all move the number. What we can tell you: HSG is priced well below the European and Japanese brands at comparable power and bed size, which is the main reason shops choose it, and running cost is lower than the plasma or waterjet it usually replaces — no electrodes, no nozzles, no abrasive, and shop air instead of bottled nitrogen on thin material. Call 770-934-6500 or email sales@macleanmachinery.com for a written quote.
HSG G4020H: a 3–60 kW fiber laser cutter, 161.42" x 80.71" table, 2.8 G acceleration, 656 ft/min rapids. In stock at MacLean Machinery, Tucker GA.
The G4020H is a flatbed fiber laser cutting machine for sheet metal and plate, part of the HSG GH Series. HSG's flagship 2D platform: the highest dynamics in the line and the only flat-sheet series that is automation-ready for towers and load/unload cells.
Best suited to shops that buy 5x10 stock but want to nest oversize blanks, and anyone planning a jump to 20 kW or higher. It earns its keep in:
The 4100 x 2050 mm bed clears a full 5x10 sheet with room to spare, so you stop trimming nests to fit. Because the GH platform is automation-ready, this is the size most customers pick when a tower or load/unload cell is anywhere in the five-year plan.
Most shops buying a machine like this are replacing plasma or waterjet. Against plasma you gain tighter tolerances, a cleaner edge that usually needs no secondary cleanup, and the ability to hold small features plasma cannot. Against waterjet you gain speed — often several times faster on the same sheet — with no abrasive to buy. If it is thick plate pushing you toward waterjet, the answer is almost always more laser power rather than a different process: a 20 kW or 30 kW GH cuts carbon steel well past two inches, and the GV and GFA series go heavier still. Ask us to size the power tier against your thickest regular material before you settle for a slower process. If you also cut tube, ask about the HSG tube line rather than adding a saw and drill cell.
HSG has been building metal-shaping equipment since 2006, runs an optical R&D centre in Japan, and operates a US subsidiary holding parts and machine inventory in Chicago and Los Angeles. The machines are built to European CE standards and priced well below the European and Japanese brands at comparable power and bed size. That price gap is the main reason shops choose HSG — and it is why a fiber laser now competes for the money you were about to spend on a plasma table. Running cost lands lower too: no electrodes or nozzles to replace as on plasma, no abrasive to buy as on waterjet, and on thin material you can cut with shop air instead of bottled nitrogen. The saving does not come out of the machine. These are heavy welded steel beds with precision racks and guide rails and bus-based control, and you choose whether an IPG or a Raycus laser source goes inside. Every machine carries a one-year warranty as standard, with three-year coverage on some models and extended terms available up to five years.

We also serve Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina and the wider Southeast, and we sell and support HSG machines nationwide. We will tell you when a smaller machine is the right answer.
